My German shepherd prefers my husband - 12/29/2005
I have a 4 month old German Shepherd female. I was the one who wanted the dog. I am the one who gets up with her, feeds her, and excersises her, and yet she won't come to me, or really gives me any attention. And yet she loves my husband. I know this sounds silly, but I don't understand why she prefers my husband to me. Any suggestions as to why, and what I might need to change in my behavior?

For whatever reason female dogs often perfer men. Since you do most all of her care she sees YOU as the alpha. You are the "boss" Dad is probably the "buddy" She respects your role and trust me she LOVES you, females are often less affectionate than males too. My girl wants to be loved ONLY when SHE wants it, my male is the biggest snuggler ever. :)

I have a female GSD and she is extremely affectionate to me and hates to be without me. She loves my husband but given the choice chooses me! I have not found the males to be so.

Female Gsd's typically prefer men and vice versa. I am a female and when i asked my breeder should I get a male or female, as soon as she told me about this preference, I decided to get a male and he follows ME everywhere not my husband.
