Barking problem - 02/27/2006
I have a GSD and I am working out of country right now. My wife is at home with my dog. He has started barking so much that the neighbors called animal control. I know he misses me because he has never done this before. Is there anything that I can have my wife do to help alleviate this problem? Right now she drops him off at her parents house on her way to work so he has someone to watch out for. When he is all alone, he loses it. I really do not like to have her do that. He has a good sized backyard that he roam in. If you have any suggestions, or if you have dealt with this kind of situation before, please let me know. Thank you

You could try getting a large kong (found at any pet store) fill it with cream cheese, and freeze it. That should keep him occupied for hours. Also, a treated knuckle bone (buthcher shop) is great. Rawhide is always a hit with my shepherd. If he gets lots of exercise, that will help. Last resorts: keep him in the basement or garage in a kennel, or buy a bark collar.
