barking at other dogs - 04/18/2006
I have a 5 month old female GS that has begun to bark at other dogs. She is very well behaved otherwise, but this is really becoming a problem. We have two other dogs who are older. Barking isn't a problem with our dogs or the neighbor's dogs. It seems to be a problem with dogs she doesn't know. I took her for a walk today, in a new neighborhood. There were seven other dogs out and she barked so much small children were scared. What do I do to correct this?

I am having similar problems with my 2 year old dog. We have started attending training classes, but he doesn't yet seem to have read the rules as thoroughly as I have. I have been told 1)he is being protective of me, and 2) he lacks confidence and ability to socialise. He began by barking at other dogs, but then began attacking them in the park when off the lead. I don't have any answer to the problem, just lots of sympathy for your plight.
