constantly scratching ear ,licking paws - 10/09/2005
My 2.5 yr old male shepherd started licking his paws, scratching his ears and sneezing AFTER he had surgery for bloat that saved his life this summer. He has had a elizabethan collar on since then because we are gone parts of the day and he would lick his feet raw. I feel so bad for him. I can tell he's uncomfortable because he sighs and other frustrating sounding low growls. he sneezes. He'll lay on the floor with the collar on and scratch his chin by rubbing it back and forth on the carpet. After the bloat, He did have to do a course of antibiotics and eat rice and hamburger. Is any of this linked? Vet told me 2 mos ago it's allergies to something airborne. It's now Oct. and has just done a test for mange and there are no mites present. Has anyone had this issue? Could it be yeast?

i am having a simalar problem with my 3 yr. old male. he is itchy all the time. i am now trying a food {kibble] that is all natural and also i add a can of all natural dog food. but it has been about 9 months now and i see no change. the onluy thing that helps his itching is steroids. but he cant be on those any length of time as they are not good for him. my next step is the raw diet. i am going to start to incorporate that into his food. he was a very picky eater before the all natural diet. he was a little underweight. but now he is 15 lbs. overweight because he loves that food. it is a constant battle with him. but i would not trade him for the world!! he's my baby. good luck and if you have good ideas let us know.
